Sinus bone grafts are also performed to replace bone in the posterior upper jaw.
Sinus Lift is a surgical method by which we can increase the amount bone tissue of the upper jaw, above the molars and premolars.
The maxillary sinuses are behind your cheeks and on top of the upper teeth and are like empty rooms that have nothing in them. Some of the roots of the natural upper teeth extend up into the maxillary sinuses. When these upper teeth are removed, there is often just a thin wall of bone separating the maxillary sinus and the mouth. Dental implants need bone to hold them in place. When the sinus wall is very thin, it is impossible to place dental implants in this bone.
To address this problem the dentist will enter the sinus from where the upper teeth used to be. The sinus membrane is then lifted upward and donor bone is inserted into the floor of the sinus. After healing, the bone becomes part of the patient’s jaw and dental implants can be inserted and stabilized in this new sinus bone.
If enough bone between the upper jaw ridge and the bottom of the sinus is available to stabilize the implant well, sinus augmentations and implant placement can sometimes be performed as a single procedure. If not enough bone is available, the Sinus Augmentation will have to be performed first, then the graft will have to mature for several months, depending upon the type of graft material used. Once the graft has matured, the implants can be placed.

I needed an implant. After doing some research I decided to give Dr. Khan a call. I am really glad I did. He explained everything & has great "bedside" manners. My procedure went without a hitch & no real pain. I'm in the process of moving all of my family's dental needs, along with my future dental maintenance over to Dr. Khan. Plus, bedsides my utmost respect for my treatment, the people that work for him are as nice as it gets, this office comprehends what customer service is all about!
I initially went to Dr. Khan for a dental implant, later to find out that while he specializes in reconstructive and implant dentistry, he has taken time away from his practice to travel to Germany to keep abreast of the latest techniques in dental implant technology. To me, that speaks to his level of professionalism as well as Dr. Khan’s desire to offer his patients state-of-the-art dental practices. I must say, that my number one reason for picking any specialist is that he/she uses the latest practices and that they are knowledgeable in what they do…..then, secondly, I look at one’s personality/affect. With Dr. Khan, you get both in the same package—a 5-star dentist in both areas. He is kind, compassionate, cheerful and respectful and charges a fair price for his services. While in the implant process, I also had the opportunity to have my teeth cleaned. I found the hygienist to be thorough as she took time in explaining how to keep my teeth/gums healthy. His office is clean, extremely efficient and well run. The office staff are cheerful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable in a friendly, personable environment. They truly seem to love their jobs, which reflects happily back onto the patient. I have dental insurance and the office staff has been very informative and flexible in submitting payments on my behalf. If you’re ‘looking’, this is a 5-Star practice from the time you walk in until the time you leave.
